WINTER TREES

2 WINTER TREES

Stark naked now
stripped of all
subterfuge,
the trees disclose
lbare twisted branches,
knobbly trunks bent,
even broken boughs.

The scars of life
cannot be hid,
now summer's gentle coverage
has gone.

And yet I like them
just as well.
There's beauty in
their winter state,
a simple sort of
honesty.
