FOREWORD

The key element that we all face
is Time. How do we understand and
confront it? Time is composed of
seperate moments.

The first poem records the brief
transitory nature of time. And
how it poses a dilemna.

We can never fully engage with
our joy because always in the
background there is the thought
that soon everything will be
snatched away from us.

The poem "No Now" challenges
our concept of time. Is all we
experience some kind of dream?

The second poem "Winter Trees"
suggests we wear the scars of
life with pride. There is a
degree of beauty and honesty
about them.

The poem "Identity" describes
the experience of catching a
glance of your face in the
mirror and not recognising who
is there. A strangers face
peers back at you. It disrupts
the flattering picture we
prefer to hold of our selves.

But look beyond the surface.
There you might find life has
compensated us with benefits
more rewarding than skin deep
beauty.

"Thought Chord" tries to capture
the essence of the moment.
Different elements fuse together
to form a moment of consciousness.
In our mind all the sounds and
sights blur into one another
to make up one "Chord".

The poem asks are we mentally
constructing our world. Or are
we the receivers who are
manipulated and played upon.

"Awareness" suggests there is
an ability to reach out and
go beyond the man made fabric
of reality. We can get closer
in our understanding to the
essence of everything.

Poems like "Landlady" and
"The Ward" bring us back to
earth. They are a slice of
everyday life. Common problems
are dealt with in a humerous
and observant way.

"Junkman" is also descriptive.
The sweating horse, the wagon
piled high with scrap. It paints
a nostalgic picture of a bygone
age. An age which was more
physical and less automated.

The "Restless Leaves" compares
our busy hectic world to the
life cycle of leaves. How they
are blown about by the wind.
And at the end of the day they
hang limp with exhaustion.

"Timeless Dimension" is more
personal.It confronts the loss
of a loved one. The poem asks
why life is so short. We
develope to our maximum capacity.
Then all of that potential is
lost. It seems such a waste.
Why did evolution choose such a
course for us? Why does it
place so little value on
human life?

"Daisy Chain" is another personal
poem about the link between
parent and child.

I hope you find these poems
inspiring and uplifting.
